Our Challenge
Australia consumes over 4 million tons of plastic and over 50 million tires every year. Only 9% of plastics and less than 1% of tires are recycled, with the majority ending up in landfill or dumped in the environment.

Australia: 2nd highest per capita emitters of waste plastic
At an average of approx. 60 kg of plastic waste generated per person per year, Australia ranks 2nd in the world on a per capita basis.
Only 9% of plastic waste is recycled. 12% is incinerated (burnt) and 79% is buried in landfills or littering the environment.

Over 60 million waste tires per year
Australia currently generates approx. 50 million, or around 750,000 tons, of waste tires per year. This number will increase as Australia’s population continues to grow requiring more passenger, commercial, and logistical vehicles.
Less than 1% of tires are recycled and those that are, are mainly shredded into crumb rubber for applications such as sports surfaces and playgrounds – a limited use that only prolongs the issue of disposal.
ABOUT US
Solving today’s challenges for a better tomorrow.
GOMAC is a specialist, Australian development company with decades of experience proudly delivering transformational projects here in Australia and around the world. We believe our purpose is to make our mark to leave the world in a better state than we found it.
As the global population continues to surge, it’s time to take action by transforming our behaviors and rethinking how we use resources to build a sustainable, circular economy that safeguards our invaluable environment for the future.

THE WASTE TO VALUE PROJECT
The US$ 60M project will use a clean, smart technology to convert 38,000 tons per year of waste tires and plastics into activated carbon, recycled steel, power, and sustainable clean diesel.
The smart technology will save 124,500 tons of carbon dioxide every year being emitted into the atmosphere. That’s the equivalent of removing 27,000 combustion engine vehicles from the road.
Our 3.5 hectare (35,000 m2) project site, located in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland between major arterial highways, rail networks and major ports is ideal to receive waste for processing as well as the distribution of products.
The project will produce 20 million litres of diesel, 15,700 tons of activated carbon, 4,200 of recycled steel and 8,000 megawatt hours of power.
A SUSTAINABLE, CIRCULAR ECONOMY SOLUTION.
The project will be a true enabler of the circular economy allowing other sectors to decarbonise activities that would otherwise be difficult or unable to be decarbonised.
By diverting their waste tires and plastics to the project, businesses in the resources, logistics, and automotive service sectors, as well as councils, can avoid sending waste to landfill.

PYROLYSIS: WHAT IS IT?
Pyrolysis is a simple, thermal process that transforms waste materials, like tires and plastics, into valuable products by heating them in the absence of oxygen. No harmful emissions, no odours, no carbon dioxide!
Tires and plastics are broken down through a chemical reaction into their original carbon forms to create a gas that is cooled and condensed into a bio-liquid, and a solid, pure carbon product.
The liquid will be upgraded on site into ultra-clean diesel fuel and the carbon will be processed, also on site, through a beneficiation plant to produce an “activated carbon” product which has hundreds of critical applications in the food, water treatment, medical, industrial, and agricultural sectors.
PROJECT OUTCOMES
The state-of-the-art project will deliver a scalable, practical solution to responsibly and sustainably tackle waste disposal.
